Access to Education
LSC represents students in school discipline and other education cases to keep children and youth in school and out of the school-to-prison pipeline in San Francisco, California and surrounding areas.
LSC’s education clients also receive social work support to help them access mental health services, public benefits, and other services that increase stability in their lives. Students with disabilities and students of color are disproportionally subject to school discipline, are at the greatest risk of chronic absenteeism, and have the greatest need for holistic services.
LSC further expands the impact of our education work by providing information and training to students, parents, guardians, education rights holders, and service providers, and collaborating with other organizations providing services to youth. LSC is a member of the San Francisco Youth Justice Initiative, a multi-organization initiative focused on reducing the number of young people involved in the justice system in San Francisco by reducing suspensions and chronic absenteeism among San Francisco middle school students.
